Holiday Tooth Guide for the Happiest of Holidays!

We all know the holidays can be the most difficult time of the year to stay away from foods and beverages that cause damage to your child’s teeth and gums. Not only that, but it can often be hard to stick to your regular daily oral health routine. Since we recognize it can be nearly impossible to say no to all the delicious options during the holidays (and we wouldn’t want you to!), we have some tips on how to eat what you want and still keep your child’s mouth in great shape.

If You are Traveling for the Holidays, Bring an Easily Accessible Travel Dental Kit

Make sure you and your child have your travel tooth brush, tooth paste, floss and mouthwash easily accessible throughout the holidays. Trying to brush, floss and rinse out your mouth after every meal will help remove food particles from your teeth rather than leaving them to sit for hours. As difficult as it can be while traveling, it is very important to stick to your daily oral health routines, especially when you are consuming more food than normal.

Drink Lots of Water and When You Drink Anything Else, Use a Straw

Obviously it is well known water is the best beverage for your teeth. Many other liquids contain high amounts of acid that can break down tooth enamel, and darker liquids can stain teeth over time. Drinking water also helps freshen breath and eliminate food particles stuck in the teeth. If you and your child are drinking something other than water, try using a straw when possible as it will help guide the liquid past your teeth and not cause as much enamel damage or stains.
